After The Rain: Total Environment
Architecture
ATR was conceived as a home where comfort and refinement coexist effortlessly. From the initial brief, the intention was clear—to create a residence that would serve as a calm refuge from the pace and density of Bengaluru’s urban life. Located on the outskirts of the city, the villa offers the opportunity to shape a space that feels grounded and inward-looking, while still being open and light-filled.
The guiding concept for the interiors was one of quiet luxury. Every decision—from furniture selection to fabrics and finishes—was anchored in restraint. The objective was not to create visual excess, but to prioritise material integrity, craftsmanship, and longevity. The client’s emphasis on quality over ostentation informed a palette that is refined yet understated, allowing textures and proportions to take precedence over ornamentation.
Sustainability has been integral to our design process since the inception of the practice, becoming a natural extension of our conceptual ideation. Celebrating and articulating this ethos formed one of the core principles guiding the villa’s design. Natural materials such as marble, stone, terracotta, and quartzite were consciously chosen to age gracefully, supporting an approach rooted in durability and timelessness rather than trend.
The double-height entrance volume became a defining spatial moment within the home. A terracotta-clad feature wall rises through this space, articulated with subtle variations in pattern and texture to create depth without distraction. Positioned beneath a skylight, the wall is animated by natural light that shifts across its surface through the day, reinforcing its material richness and anchoring the entry experience.
Across the villa, earthy tones and tactile finishes establish continuity, while measured accents of colour are introduced to prevent monotony. The result is a home that balances comfort with refinement, offering a composed and enduring interior environment.
