Studio Apartment
Architecture
Context
Perched above a serviced apartment building along Indiranagar’s busy 100-ft Road, the project was conceived as a rooftop addition for a young couple seeking a quieter living environment above the city. The design transforms the terrace into a self-contained home while maintaining openness toward surrounding views and tree canopies.
Design Approach
The architecture is organised as a compact gabled structure built using a steel frame system. The sloping roof creates a double-height volume that anchors the interior while allowing daylight to enter deep into the space. Extensive glazing along the north-facing side maximises soft natural light while reducing heat gain.
The interior is conceived as a flexible single-volume plan where functions remain visually connected but can be separated when required through sliding partitions.
Spatial Experience
The living space unfolds beneath the double-height gable roof and extends outward toward a landscaped terrace. A breakfast counter connects the kitchen with the living area, while a slender metal staircase leads to a mezzanine level that functions as a guest bedroom or study.
Large sliding openings allow the living area, bar space, and outdoor sit-out to merge into a continuous environment. Together with the terraces and skylit bathroom, the apartment creates a small but expansive home that balances privacy, openness, and adaptability.
